Brittled bark
breath between branches
silence cracked with light
leaves ensconced in ice
silver sheets of rolled ribbon candy
crumbled crumbling crust
glimmered wrappers exposed
like gnarled fingers
reaching from unmarked graves
jutting from half-frozen
ground
here lies
the dirt of our disregard
you know
i know
when it thaws
nothing can be hidden
Listen
we have failed
the frigid flowers
sway
in disbelief
and all we hear
is the wind
emptying us
of our delusion
