~after Raymond Souster’s “Six-Quart Basket”
You notice
the metal bowl
maybe once a lid to something
Probably fallen from a truck
to the ditch
on the way to the garbage dump
You notice
the metal bowl
maybe iron
What is that substance?
you’ve not touched it
but in years gone by touched a like substance
You notice
the metal bowl
misshapen, rusted
Days later
you’re still noticing
that metal bowl
Your mind lights up
searching for a use
for such an old bent thing
