K-T Boundary

by Stephen Humphrey

I remember you
from the extinction event.

Bright, defensive frills rose
like your neck had caught fire.

Your gorgeous tail cut, whip-like
through sulphurous plumes.

I could only marvel at your tongue
darting as the aftershocks hit.

“This too,” you hissed
“will be forgotten.”
