Was emptiness watching me?
I had to see; threw a rock into
the abyss and squinted for a twitch.

Blight eyes beneath that crepuscular
mask of black sky — it unblinked back,
didn’t it? Watched me, piscine, lure of
luminous spine like a star in parallax.

Radioactive, unforeseen, lachrymal:
its teardrop imploded. Sadness only
matters if you exist. These thoughts,
dark spots in my field of vision:

lost my eye, changed my mind.
